• Strains can be screened for ‘hidden potentials’, in particular for strains producing
increased amounts of vitamins.
• In addition bottlenecks in the fermentation process such as limited biomass
production can be identified and overcome by using genomics technology involving
complete coverage of the bacterial genome.
By combining these techniques, up to 100-fold higher controlled natural production (several mg/l instead of the usual 10 to100 µg) of multiple B-vitamins by the bacteria of choice can be achieved.
