Clients come to the food grade pilot plant when they need additional production capacity. This can be to avoid small batches in their own production or when the required process equipment is not (yet) available.
Fonterra asked NIZO food research to assist in the production of new high protein yoghurt for clinical testing. NIZO was selected as partner, because of our pilot plant that meets all requirements in combination with our expertise on processing and proteins. By meeting the time-line and required food grade standards, Fonterra successfully received a high whey protein fortified yoghurt beverage.
Ruitenberg Ingredients has started using technology developed by NIZO food research to launch a new product: fibrous vegetable proteins. The two companies signed a contract to that effect in December 2014.
OptiBiotix contracted NIZO to undertake screening of about 600 strains to select strains that have an effect on cholesterol lowering. Three strains showed an ability to reduce cholesterol by between 72% and 81%.
