Ad Juriaanse, CEO
Scientists study things; engineers design things. That’s what is so appealing at NIZO: we employ both!
With this combination we develop the necessary understanding, but life at NIZO has one clear ultimate purpose: the translation of all this cleverness into real products and processes for industry. That is what fascinates me!
How I got here? Trained as a chemist, I did a PhD and subsequently worked for 14 years for Unilever in both scientific and management roles in research and operating companies.
In 1995 I joined NIZO food research as CEO and it is a great place to work; excellent science, motivated people and a dynamic and challenging network with international food companies. Our work does matter!

In addition to technology issues, the current economy increasingly leads to questions from companies how they can balance internal vs external R&D. from our wide range of industrial contacts we get a broad view on the decision companies make. How do you deal with this?
