Data Scientist Bioinformatics

As a senior member of a multidisciplinary team of scientists, project managers and research lab assistants across different divisions, your daily work as data scientist bioinformatics at NIZO will involve data analysis and -interpretation within challenging projects for our customers. You work directly in our network of cooperation with leading universities. As a senior member, you will also be involved in innovation and strategy trajectories across different disciplines of our company, thereby seeking for latest state-of-the art technologies and applications in your field of expertise that need to be implemented and applied. In addition, you have a potential to collaborate with experts across diverse scientific disciplines thereby thinking along in various applications of bioinformatics and data analysis tools in our in our focus areas of food safety, fermentation, protein transition and the human microbiome.. Your knowledge and input will be applied for development of new algorithms and visualizations, configuration and optimization of the NGS pipeline, and you will be in close collaboration with scientific experts from our international customer base staff.

You preferably have a PhD degree in Bioinformatics, or MSc degree Bioinformatics with 4+ years of working experience within the industry. As an experienced professional you have been working with different programming languages (Python, R, SQL or NoSQL, Linux), are able to use and set up NGS pipelines (QIIME 1.8/2.0), and capability to perform genomic screenings (functional and phylogenetic comparisons).

We expect you to have excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English and to be able to translate complex bioinformatics matters into relevant benefits for our customers.
