Scientist and Senior Project Manager Microbiomics

As Scientist and Senior Project manager Microbiomics I mainly work on projects in which we characterize the effects of food or food ingredients, such as prebiotics and probiotics, on the human gut microbiota and health using in vitro and in vivo studies.

My passion for the human gut microbiota and its effects on gut health and beyond started during my PhD at the Radboud University Medical Center (Nijmegen, NL) in which I studied the effects of oral iron supplementation on the gut microbiota. During this time I also learned to know NIZO as a strong collaboration partner in Microbiomics.

I still enjoy very much to combine in silico, in vitro and in vivo research for health benefit substantiation of ingredients, and for improving our understanding on the mechanism of action behind the effects. The microbiome field is moving fast and a lot is still to be discovered such as the potential modulatory effects of ingredients on mental health and cognition via the intriguing gut-brain-axis.

I am happy to assess, together with you, the potential health benefits of your food component of interest. Feel free to contact!
