Years ago a Dutch friend asked if I knew the word ‘beroepsdeformatie’. I did not. Her translation (a work-deformation) led to a diagnosis: I was developing an obsession with food. I could reassure her otherwise – I found a career that fitted my already-existing deformation. I’ve always been a bit obsessive about food. I compulsively check labels. My kitchen is my kingdom.
After getting my PhD in Chemical Engineering and doing some post-doctoral work, when it came time to look for a ‘real job’, food was an obvious choice and I started my career in dairy with Campina. A few years later I had the opportunity to lead a group at NIZO. After six years doing so, NIZO offered me a new challenge as a Business Development Manager.
