TiFN and NIZO Food Research announce that Dr. Alwine Kardinaal has been appointed as Theme Director Healthy Nutrition at TiFN starting August 1, 2021.

Dr. Alwine Kardinaal is a renowned researcher with more than 50 scientific publications to her name. Her career as a nutrition scientist and research manager at the research institutes TNO and NIZO food research provides an overview of the domain, but also a lot of practical experience in setting up and conducting industrially relevant  nutrition research. At NIZO,  her focus is on demonstrating and understanding the effects of food ingredients on gut health and immunity, combining in vitro and clinical results and taking into account regulatory requirements.  Alwine Kardinaal is and will continue to work as a Principal Scientist at NIZO Food Research and she will fill the TiFN position on a secondment basis.

About her choice for TiFN she says:

“The contribution of our diet  to a healthy and pleasant life is obvious, but to understand exactly how it works and what concrete improvements we can achieve, collaboration between scientists and companies is of great importance. In TiFN I can link my experiences with the enormous knowledge network and the result-oriented way of working that have proven so effective in recent years.”

The management of TiFN is pleased with the reinforcement of the team.

“The appointment of Dr. Kardinaal fits very well with our ambition for the future. With the arrival of major new research programs at NWO, the strengthening of the top sector policy and the possibility of securing growth funds for the food sector in the future, there are major challenges in further streamlining food research activities in the Netherlands. TiFN has almost 25 years of experience with this and the knowledge and experience of dr. Kardinaal will be of great added value”. – Dr. Ronald Visschers, Director TiFN
