Sophie Schutte

Senior Scientist Health and Nutrition

As Senior Scientist at NIZO, I work at the intersection of nutrition, health, and sustainability, translating science into impact across a diverse portfolio of research projects. My focus lies in uncovering the molecular and mechanistic pathways through which food influences our health and well-being, and applying that knowledge to develop better, healthier products for people and planet.

With a PhD in Nutrition Science from Wageningen University & Research and experience in both academia and the FMCG sector, I bring a strong scientific foundation as well as a practical mindset to research. I specialize in functional food innovation, health benefit substantiation, and both preclinical and clinical studies, with a keen interest in the gut microbiome, immune health, and metabolic health. Beyond the science, I’m passionate about storytelling and I help clients get the most out of their scientific findings through clear communication, whether for scientific, professional, or consumer audiences.

I believe that improving everyday foods can drive meaningful change on a global scale. Let’s work together to bring your innovations to life.
