As a member of a multidisciplinary team of scientists, project managers, and research lab assistants across different divisions, your daily work as data scientist-bioinformatics at NIZO will involve data analysis and -interpretation within challenging projects for our customers. You will work directly in our network of leading universities and industry partners.

You will also be involved in innovation and strategy trajectories across different disciplines of our company, implementing the state-of-the art technologies and applications in your field of expertise. In addition, you will collaborate with experts across diverse scientific disciplines, working together to apply bioinformatics and data analysis tools in the areas of food safety, fermentation, the protein transition, and the human microbiome.

Your knowledge and input will be applied to develop new algorithms, visualizations, configuration and optimization of the NGS pipeline, and you will be in close collaboration with scientific experts from our international customer base staff. 


  • PhD degree in Bioinformatics or related fields, or a MSc degree in Bioinformatics or related fields with 4+ years of working experience within the industry.
  • Expertise with Python and/or R, SQL, Bash, Unix, Git, AWS.
  • A learner, who can research new NGS pipelines, implement, test, and apply these to solve new challenges.
  • Experience performing genomic screenings (functional and phylogenetic comparisons).
  • Experience applying bioinformatic pipelines to study the microbiome. 
  • Experience with -omics 
  • Excellent communication skills in English 
  • Capable of translating complex bioinformatics matters into relevant benefits for our customers.
