More sustainable food production practices, a demand for ‘clean label’ foods with reduced sugar and salt, and more plant-based products; such changes bring new challenges and potential risks related to spoilage and safety in the food chain. To meet these challenges, our customers in the food industry rely on NIZO as their trusted partner. To strengthen our team, we are searching for an experienced PROJECT MANAGER Food Microbiology (32-40 hours per week) who will, among others, analyse microbial contaminants, investigate measures to control microbial contaminants, and together with our customers develop strategies for chain control.

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute to the acquisition trajectory of new projects, together with our Business Development Managers.
  • Translating customer needs into knowledge-based and technological approaches that will deliver practical solutions
  • Defining project plans that meet customer requirements
  • Managing and executing projects in the field of microbial contaminants and chain control
  • Leading multidisciplinary project teams (with experts in e.g. food microbiology, bioinformatics, laboratory, dairy and plant-based food manufacturing)

Your profile (at least several of the following items)

  • PhD degree in the field of Food Science and Technology with relevant experience in chemical and microbial contaminants and preservation in food. Experience with dairy and dairy alternatives is a pre.
  • Experience with project management and acquisition, ideally in a commercial / CRO setting
  • Capable of simultaneously managing various projects
  • Motivating and managing of multidisciplinary project teams
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills (English; ideally also Dutch)
  • Managing customer expectations
  • Excellent creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent writing skills (English; ideally also Dutch)
  • Personal characteristics: independent, pro-active, team player, keeping overview while paying attention to details, enthusiastic, convincing, pragmatic and flexible
